A modified format was trialled for the day, with the match consisting of 9 holes greensomes scratch matchplay and 9 holes singles scratch matchplay. The sun was shining however, a typical Littlehampton welcome awaited us with winds up to 30 miles an hour.
Final Score: HMGC 7.5 – 7.5 Littlehampton
The final result, a very friendly half. We would like to thank Littlehampton Golf Club for the invite and for being great hosts. Our thanks also to our Club Captain Justin Cooper for walking round and supporting the team. As always, a thank you to our kit sponsors Graham Butt Estate Agents.
Our next game of which is the last of our friendly fixtures is away to The Dyke on the 26/04.
On Saturday 29th of March, The Ham Manor Scratch team hosted West Sussex Golf Club in their second practice match of the year. Hoping to bounce back from their defeat to Worthing a few weeks prior, the team selected for the match:

Format: Four Ball Better Ball Scratch Matchplay

A fantastic turnaround for the team following our first match result against Worthing. The team showed great determination in every game which reflected in Ham Manor not losing a single match. Once again our thanks to club vice captain Huw Williams for being the honorary starter for the day and to our head chef Malcom and the catering team for providing a fantastic meal once play had concluded. Thank you to our Kit Sponsors Graham Butt Estate Agents.
Our next game is away at Littlehampton on the 5th of April.

ROUND 3 – v Copthorne (home) on Saturday 1st June
Miracle at the Manor!
On Saturday 1st of June, the Ham Manor Scratch Team hosted Copthorne Golf Club in the third round of the Wellesey Inter Scratch Team Trophy.
The Team selected for the match:
Rhys Nicholas, Jason Turner, Josh Glossop, James Lynch, Aron Linkhorn, Kev Siveter, Matt Calvert and Anthony ‘Duffers’ Duffield.
Fresh back from his first year studying and playing collegiate golf in the states, Rhys Nicholas and Jason Turner led out the Ham Manor team in the morning foursomes. After a very tight game unfortunately Jason and Rhys lost 2&1 on 17th. With two down with two to play, Rhys almost holed his tee shot on 17th for a gimme birdie however, Copthorne closed the door by holing a 20 foot birdie putt. This result was replicated by James and Josh narrowly losing out on the 17th green. Kev and Aron lost their game which saw Copthorne leading 3-0 with one match still out on the course. Matt and Duffers managed to secure Ham Manor’s only point of the morning session with a fantastic 4&3 win.
Half time scores Ham Manor 1 – 3 Copthorne
After a lovely lunch provided by Malcom and his catering team, Martin rallied the team outside for a team talk which would have made
José María Olazábal proud.
Matt Calvert led Ham Manor out in the afternoon singles playing Copthorne’s Matthew Vearncombe, who only the day before was crowned the Sussex Boys Champion at Haywards Heath Golf Club. After, a great game, Matt managed to win on the last hole after holing a vital putt. The comeback begins! News of this spread throughout the team like wildfire, with Jason being 4 down with 6 to play and managing a come back for the ages and by winning his game on the 18th green 1 up. Unfortunately Rhys and James lost their matches. The dream was not over yet… following this, match points were secured by Aron with a 2&1 win, Josh with a 4&3 win, Kev with a 6&5 win and Duffers with a 2&1 win, which saw Ham Manor obtain 6 points in the afternoon singles session out of a possible 8!
Final score: Ham Manor 7 – 5 Copthorne
A fantastic game which came down right to the wire! With Ham Manor continuing their unbeaten run for the year by advancing to the next round. Ham Manor will now face an away fixture at Royal Eastbourne in the quarter finals on the 15th of June. On behalf of ourselves and the team, a massive thank you to the catering staff at Ham Manor; Malcolm and Andy for providing both teams with breakfast before play in the morning as well as lunch prior to the afternoon session. Quarter Finals – v Royal Eastbourne (away) on Saturday 15th June
On Saturday 15th of June, the Ham Manor Scratch made a trip across the south coast to Royal Eastbourne Golf Club to play the quarter final of the Wellesey Inter Scratch Team Trophy.
The team selected for the match:
Josh Glossop, Ollie Kenning, Jason Turner, Ralph Roberts, Kev Siveter, Aron Linkhorn, James Lynch, and Anthony ‘Duffers’ Duffield.
Jason and Duffers led out Ham Manor. However, the moment the first group stood on the first tee the heavens opened and the rain did not stop for the next 4 hours. The rain combined with 30 mph winds was certainly a tough test of golf. Kev and Aron teed off second for Ham Manor, followed by Ollie and Josh and Ralph and James in the last foursomes match. After some great golf, considering the weather conditions, unfortunately local knowledge proved a vital asset for Royal Eastbourne by taking the lead and winning all the foursomes games.
Half time scores: Ham Manor 0 – 4 Royal Eastbourne.
After a lovely lunch provided by Royal Eastbourne, a tough task lay ahead for Ham Manor needing to win at least 6 out of the 8 singles games. The rain had cleared and the sun came out for the afternoon. Jason led out Ham Manor and it was game on. After a very tense few hours on the south downs above Eastbourne with every Ham Manor player displaying a fantastic attitude of never giving up; unfortunately it was not meant to be for Ham Manor. Jason narrowly missed out losing on the last hole and James also losing on the 17th. Josh managed to halve his match down the last followed by Duffers making a brilliant up and down for par on the 18th to win his match one up. Kev secured a 4 & 3 win however, this was the last point for Ham Manor. Ollie, Ralph, and Aron lost their games meaning the 2024 scratch inter scratch knock out campaign was over for Ham Manor.
Final Score: Ham Manor 2.5 – 9.5 Royal Eastbourne.
All the matches were played with great camaraderie. However the result sees Ham Manor knocked out of the The Wellesey Inter Scratch Team Trophy for 2024. Our thanks go to Royal Eastbourne Golf Club for their hospitality throughout the day and we wish them the best of luck in the semi-final. Our thanks goes to all the Ham Manor members who travelled to Royal Eastbourne and braved the elements for the day. As always our thanks goes to Graham Butt estate agents, our kit sponsor for 2024.
We would like to thank you to all the members for all your support this year and we hope to see you all next year.

Practice Match – Scratch Team v Sussex County Men’s 1st Team
On Saturday 13th of April, the Ham Manor Scratch team played host to the Sussex County Golf Men’s 1st team in their first friendly fixture of the season. The team selected for the match:
Jason Turner, Ralph Roberts, Josh Glossop, James Lynch, Matt Calvert, Anthony ‘Duffers’ Duffield, Kevin Siveter, Aaron Linkhorn
The weather was kind and it was great to be once again playing on the full course. The format for the day was 8 games of singles scratch matchplay. With Ham Manor playing the best amateur golfers in the County, it was certainly going to be a tough test for the Scratch team. Jason led out out the Scratch team and managed to secure a win down the 18th hole which was mirrored by Josh and James. Matt and Duffers won their games on the 17th and Aaron took his match down the 18th and also secured a win. Unfortunately Ralph and Kev narrowly lost their games. However, it was an overall win for Ham Manor with the final score:
Ham Manor Scratch Team 6 – 2 Sussex County Men’s First Team
A fantastic achievement for the Scratch team and we hope to continue this form for the rest of the season! Our thanks goes to all the Ham Manor members for giving up the tee times to allow us to host the County 1st Team. A thank you to the County Captain Julian Deans and his team for making the journey to Ham Manor. Another thanks to Paul Brown and his green keeping team for battling the elements this year and having the course in great condition. As always our thanks goes to Graham Butt Estate Agents, once again our kit sponsor for 2024. Our first match in the Wellesey Inter Scratch Matchplay is away to Brighton and Hove on the 18th of May.
We wish everyone the best of luck for the golfing season!
